Lawson Fusao Inada

Lawson Fusao Inada is a third-generation Japanese-American from Fresno, California. During the second World War, he was imprisoned in American concentration camps in California, Arkansas, and Colorado. A graduate of Fresno State University and the University of Oregon, he has been on the faculty of Southern Oregon University since 1966.

Inada is the author of Before the War, the first volume by an Asian-American to be published by a major firm. His second book of poetry, Legends from Camp, received the American Book Award and was featured on "CBS Sunday Morning." He was one of twenty-one poets to be honored at the White House, for a "Salute to Poetry and American Poets."
