Winner of the Pulitzer Prize for poetry, the American Book Award (Selected Poems, 1982), a MacArthur Fellowship and many other awards, Galway Kinnell stands today in the first rank of American poets born in the 1920s. It was Morris Dickstein who heralded Kinnell as "one of the true master poets of his generation and a writer whose career exemplifies some of what is best in contemporary poetry."
