Aaron G. Murphy is a member of the California and
Utah bars. He received his J.D., University of Tennessee, 1999, summa
cum laude and his B.A., Chapman University, 1995 magna cum laude. Mr.
Murphy's primary area of expertise is the Foreign Corrupt Practices Act
("FCPA"), with an emphasis on bribery in Asian countries, particularly
China. He has played lead roles in numerous FCPA investigations in Hong
Kong, mainland China, Indonesia, Thailand, India, and has advised on many
other investigations in Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Prior to
joining Latham, Mr. Murphy served as a judicial clerk for the Honorable
Sidney R. Thomas of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit.
In private practice, he has participated in cases in the United States
Courts of Appeals for both the Sixth and Ninth Circuits, including three
currently pending Ninth Circuit appeals. Mr. Murphy devotes a substantial
portion of his time - in excess of 200 hours per year - to pro bono matters.
These matters have included representations of individuals in asylum cases
and other immigration proceedings, as well as major class action impact
litigation against school districts, juvenile detention facilities, and
the California Department of Education relating to the treatment of disabled
children. Mr. Murphy is currently a member of the board of directors of
the Disability Rights Legal Center. Mr. Murphy also served on active duty
in the United States Marine Corps from 1992 to 1996.
